Το ΚΙΝΟ Athens, σε συνεργασία με το Bios διοργανώνουν την Δευτέρα 27 Ιουνίου ένα αφιέρωμα στη δουλειά της σκηνοθέτριας Alena Lodkina.
Τι κοινό έχει η απομονωμένη πρωτεύουσα μαύρου οπαλίου Lightning Ridge με την πρώιμη ιστορία της Μήδειας; Την απάντηση δίνει μία βουτιά στο έργο της πρωτοποριακής Αυστραλέζας σκηνοθέτιδας Alena Lodkina, η οποία θα βρεθεί στην Αθήνα για ένα μοναδικό αφιέρωμα στην ταράτσα του Bios στις 27 Ιουνίου.
Ξεκινώντας με το κινηματογραφικό της ντεμπούτο μεγάλου μήκους, Strange Colors, η Lodkina μας μεταφέρει κάπου 1000 χιλιόμετρα από την Μελβούρνη, σε μια απομακρυσμένη κοινότητα εξόρυξης οπαλίου γεμάτη πότες και ονειροπόλους. Σε ένα σύννεφο κίτρινης σκόνης, αποδίδει τη μελαγχολία και τη μοναξιά των κατοίκων, μέσα από ένα μωσαϊκό προσώπων και τοπίων ακαταμάχητης γοητείας που σιγοβράζει λυρικά. Στη συνέχεια, με την ταινία μικρού μήκους Mercury, περιγράφει έναν κόσμο μεταξύ μυθολογίας και καθημερινότητας της σύγχρονης Μελβούρνης, καθοδηγούμενη πάντα από την ίδια ατμοσφαιρική και μεταφυσική κινηματογραφική διάθεση. Βραδιά αφιερωμένη σε μια πολλά υποσχόμενη δημιουργό, που συνθέτει αναπάντεχους κόσμους. (Όλια Βερροιοπούλου)

KINO Athens, in collaboration with Bios, organizes for Monday the 27th of June, a tribute focused on the work of Alena Lodkina; the directress will also attend the screening, in order to present her work to the Greek audience.
What does the isolated capital of black opal, Lightning Ridge, have in common with the early history of Medea? The answer will be given by a deep dive into the work of the pioneering, Russian born, Australian-based director Alena Lodkina, who will be in Athens for a unique screening on the roof of Bios, on June 27. With Strange Colors, her feature debut, Lodkina will take us some 1,000 miles from Melbourne to a remote opal mining community full of drinkers and dreamers. In a cloud of yellow dust, she captures the melancholy and loneliness of the inhabitants, through a mosaic of faces and landscapes of irresistible charm. And with her short Mercury, she describes a world between mythology and everyday life of modern Melbourne, always guided by the same atmospheric and metaphysical cinematic mood. KINO Athens, a member of the Athens Culture Net (ACN) of the Municipality of Athens, is an international platform with interactive screenings, bridging cinema and visual arts by means of sound and the moving image; a film society that invites the audience, the artists and the curators in a collaborative cinematic experience. Inspired by the long history of the alternative art spaces in New York, its goal is to explore new ways of cinema (re)presentation, by bringing together elements of contemporary art, experimental film and documentary.

Τέσσερις χαρακτήρες παραπέμπουν σε σέξι αποσπάσματα της πρώιμης ιστορίας της Μήδειας – της μάγισσας πριγκίπισσας της Κολχίδας που φεύγει από την πατρίδα της για την άγρια αγάπη του Ιάσονα, του ανίκανου ήρωα. Αργότερα, μια βίαιη τραγωδία θα χτυπήσει τους ερωτευμένους. Αλλά προς το παρόν, συμμετέχουν σε μια όμορφη τελετουργική γιορτή της ζωής και της εξυψωμένης αγάπης στο σπίτι της θεάς Κίρκης. Κανένας πόνος χωρίς ευχαρίστηση, ούτε ευχαρίστηση χωρίς πόνο…
Four characters evoke sexy fragments of the early story of Medea – the sorceress princess of Colchis who flees her homeland for wild love of Jason, the incompetent hero. Later, violent tragedy will strike the lovers. But for now, they partake in a beautiful ritualistic celebration of life and exalted love at the house of the goddess Circe. No pain without pleasure, or pleasure without pain…

Η Μιλένα ταξιδεύει σε μια απομακρυσμένη κοινότητα εξόρυξης οπαλίου για να δει τον απόμακρο, άρρωστο πατέρα της. Χαμένη και μόνη, βυθίζεται μέσα στον περίπλοκο κόσμο του, όπου οι άνδρες δραπετεύουν από την κοινωνία και μοιράζονται ιδανικά ελευθερίας. Σύντομα, ο πατέρας δεν θέλει να φύγει η Μιλένα.
Milena travels to a remote opal mining community to see her estranged, ill father. Lost and alone, she falls into his bewildering world, where men escape society and share ideals of freedom. Soon, he doesn’t want her to leave.

Η Alena Lodkina είναι σκηνοθέτις με έδρα τη Μελβούρνη. Σκηνοθέτησε και συνέγραψε την πρώτη της μεγάλου μήκους ταινία Παράξενα Χρώματα (2017), που αναπτύχθηκε μέσω του Κολεγίου Μπιενάλε της Βενετίας. Το Petrol (2022) είναι η δεύτερη μεγάλου μήκους ταινία της ως σεναριογράφος και σκηνοθέτις. Οι ταινίες μυθοπλασίας και ντοκιμαντέρ μικρού μήκους της έχουν παιχτεί σε φεστιβάλ σε όλο τον κόσμο. Άρθρα της για τον κινηματογράφο έχουν δημοσιευθεί στα Senses of Cinema, 4:3 Journal, Meanjin και Fireflies.
Alena Lodkina (Russia)
Alena Lodkina is a filmmaker based in Melbourne. She directed and co-wrote her first feature film Strange Colours (2017), developed through the Venice Biennale College. Petrol (2022) is her second feature film as writer and director. Her fiction and documentary short films have participated at festivals around the world. Her writing has appeared in Senses of Cinema, 4:3 Journal, Meanjin and Fireflies.
